Poverty Tour Across America: Mississippi Martin L. King, III is visiting Mississippi to draw attention to poverty throughout the United States as part of a nationwide campaign by his national nonprofit organization, Realizing the Dream, Inc. While meeting with elected officials and community leaders, King will tour Marks in the Mississippi Delta’s Quitman County and Canton in Madison County and host a Town Hall Meeting. “While there is some of the richest land in the nation in the Mississippi Delta city of Marks with an abundance of cotton, soybean, maize and catfish, the area is home to some of the poorest people in America with families who have lived in an impoverished state for nearly two centuries,” said King, who serves as president and chief executive officer of Realizing the Dream, Inc. which he co-founded to carry on the important work embodied in the legacies of his parents. Sons and Daughters of World Leaders Sign Declaration of Interdependence at Historic Global Peace Meeting in London The sons and daughters of 20th century world-renown leaders met yesterday in an unprecedented peace summit to launch the Gen II: Global Peace Initiative. They concluded their mission is to use their collective strength to take action through nonviolent, tangible steps to address instances of conflict and injustice worldwide. The historic gathering was hosted by Martin L. King, III, the eldest son of the late Civil Rights Leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mrs. Coretta Scott King. The Gen II Global Peace Team principals, Christine Chavez, Nadim Gemayel, King, Dalia Rabin, Justin Trudeau and Naomi Tutu, championed their mission throughout daylong discussions and engaged one another in dialogue to set their agenda. The group of leaders delved into several humanitarian crisis areas, including Burma, Darfur, North Korea and the Middle East. Over the next 30 days, the Gen II Global Peace Team will consider each of these areas and develop a specific plan on how to take action to aid distressed places around the world. “We are the second generation of peace keepers and it is our obligation to help fight injustice wherever it exists,” said King who serves as president and chief executive officer of Realizing the Dream, Inc., which he founded to carry on the important work embodied in the legacies of his parents. Martin L. King, III Hosts the Sons and Daughters of World Leaders for Global Peace Initiative Martin L. King, III, the eldest son of the late Civil Rights Leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Mrs. Coretta Scott King, today announced the formation of the Gen II Global Peace Initiative, which will bring together the sons and daughters of world-renown 20th century leaders to promote peace and nonviolence throughout the world. The group will meet in London, July 16 – 17, 2007; will be hosted by Lord Tarsem King of West Bromwich at the House of Lords and the Savoy Hotel. The progeny of world-renown names like Tutu and Trudeau, Kennedy and King, Mandela and Abdullah, Rabin and Hariri, Gemayel and Gandhi will unite in London at the Parliament House of Lords to proclaim their parents’ dreams are still alive and, collectively, they can make a difference. The Gen II Global Peace Initiative will work to promote world peace and nonviolence by building on the examples set by members’ parents and grandparents to inspire current and future generations to fight injustice and encourage nonviolent means to achieve positive change. They will examine a range of options that will draw attention to humanitarian crises and potential solutions to conflict and to decide on a series of initial fact-finding missions to such “hot spots” as Darfur, the Middle East, Burma and Korea.
