How to Support our Work

Thank you for your interest in supporting the work of Realizing the Dream, Inc. This page provides a brief overview of the various ways that you can do so, from simply mailing a check or clicking ‘Donate Now’, to becoming a dedicated recruiter or fundraiser in our online community. Not all help comes in the form of monetary donations (though they’re welcome!), so if you’re not ready to contribute financially, don’t let that scare you from getting involving some other way.

Giving through our Website

Donate Now BIGAs do most nonprofits today, Realizing the Dream allows you many different ways to give online – all of which are simple and completely safe.

The first is to give directly through our website by following this link, or by clicking on any of the ‘Donate Now’ buttons you see around the site. This will take you to a secure donation form that we maintain in partnership with Network for Good, which is a widely-used company that processes donations for nonprofit organizations. After providing your contact information and payment details, you should then receive an email acknowledgement from Network for Good, which will serve as your official tax record for the charitable transaction. Realizing the Dream, Inc. will subsequently contact you with a personalized follow-up thanking you for the gift. Please note that your credit card bill will read ‘Network for Good’ and not ‘Realizing the Dream’.

One benefit of giving on our site is that it gives you the option of selecting whether your donation goes into RTD’s general fund, or to one of the featured “partner projects” being implemented throughout our international network. Partner projects are small, local efforts that members of our International Youth Corps (IYC) and Global Communities Network carry out in their own communities, which RTD supports both financially and logistically when possible.

To select where your donation goes, simply choose the option you prefer under the ‘Program Designation’ pull-down menu on the donation form.

Giving through Facebook

Facebook Donate SiteRealizing the Dream has recently been expanding its reach in the growing world of social media, most notably through our daily-updated Facebook page. Donating through Facebook is fast and simple, and also allows you to publicize your philanthropy to your friends, thereby encouraging them to support the cause too. Remember that you will need to be a Facebook member to choose this option.

To donate through Facebook, simply visit our page, scroll down and select our ‘Cause’ on the left side of the page. Donations through Facebook Causes are processed by Network for Good as well, meaning that as with our website, your email acknowledgement and credit bill will be associated with Network for Good rather than RTD.

Giving isn’t the only way to help us on Facebook though, because we’re also looking for people to help us recruit new members for our Cause. The way to do so is simply to join our Facebook Cause, then select ‘Invite Friends’ on the following page. This will allow you to solicit those you’re already friends with on Facebook, and each time they click on the invitation link to RTD’s Cause, you get credit for recruiting that person.

We’re looking for online champions, and this might be your way of being one!

Create a Fundraising Page on Change.org

Change.org SiteThe growing online community of Change.org provides another opportunity for you to give online, but even more exciting is that Change also allows you to help us by becoming a dedicated recruiter and fundraiser for our work.

All you have to do is visit our Change.org community and become a member, then select ‘Start a Fundraising Page’ on the right side of the page.

From there, you will be able to choose the projects you care about, set specific recruitment and fundraising targets, and set out messaging your friends, posting your efforts on Facebook and Twitter, or building your own community on Change.

Our vision is that Change will one day be a self-sustaining community of RTD fundraisers, who as with previous movements like the Obama campaign and Haiti relief, will prove that the power to change the world lies with small donors and ordinary people like you!

In-Kind

Like any nonprofit, Realizing the Dream has a number of needs that don’t require a monetary donation. If you are an institution, individual or company who is dedicated to continuing the work of Martin Luther King, Jr. through donated services or goods, feel free to inquire directly about potential opportunities for in-kind giving.

Please direct inquiries to Mr. Wesley Tharpe, Program Manager, at (404) 946-1914 or wtharpe@realizingthedream.org.
