Looking, Listening and Learning Tour on Poverty in America
The Looking, Listening and Learning Tour is an initiative to capture a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities that attend poverty in our nation. Through dialogue and
meetings with individuals of all walks of life, community groups, and elected officials, RTD is documenting poverty as it is lived, and how individuals and families, community leaders
and elected officials are responding. Currently, Mr. King has traveled to twenty communities and plans on traveling to thirty more during the 2007 year.
This initial initiative is rooted
in a vision that sees the reality of Dr. King’s dream of social and economic justice, which can be articulated programmatically through a focus on poverty. The Realizing the Dream Listening
and Learning Tour is intended to create a platform for Mr. King to carry out that strategy by 1) identifying specific issues relevant to the work of nonviolent social change and particularly
poverty, 2) taking positions regarding these issues and 3) crafting a relevant response through a program strategy for a national Realizing the Dream Initiative.
