![]() ![]() As an international human rights activist and political leader, the first son of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has been involved in significant humanitarian and policy initiatives, whether as a presidential appointee to promote peace in foreign countries or as president of two of the Nation’s most recognizable civil/human rights organizations. Recently, he has reflected on the profound issues confronting the nation and the world—health care, social security, education, popular culture, values, economic prosperity, poverty, war, and democracy.
Now Chairman and CEO of Realizing the Dream, Inc. Mr. King is exploring new initiatives and strategies that may engage his leadership toward community and democratic renewal and his voice as a clear, fresh, non-partisan view. Mr. King’s considerable personal capital and extensive network within urban centers and across national boundaries is catalyzing new and compelling conversations about justice, equality and community. As well, his work is helping to solidify new coalitions of leaders and organizations who are committed to meeting the challenges and opportunities emerging in this millennium.
Toward this end, Realizing the Dream is launching bold initiatives to empower people to take charge of their lives and the life of their communities. Programs encompass health, education, employment, housing, economic development, leadership, community capacity, conflict resolution, nonviolence and peace initiatives. The strategies recognize that the challenges that confront disadvantaged peoples in the United States and around the world are mutually reinforcing. They respond by amalgamating and leveraging resources to achieve maximum impact toward realizing Dr. King’s dream of the Beloved Community.
